Assimulate strives for the real. Assimulate is a mediated environment for an alienated plant. With the help of Assimulate a shrub continues to thrive in its native environment although removed from a familiar ground. Assimulate transplants through a controlled system of electronic sensors and actuators, stimulating shrubbery perceptions into an artificial world. A native-like environment is synthesized through networked communications, using real-time data collection, and processing of climatological information from remote weather stations broadcasts. The robotic-greenhouse's macro-world is compared to an abstracted location and regulated autonomously at regular one minute intervals, to keep pace with the native environment. Cues are sent to a computer controlled cooler, heater, fan, growing light, and sprinkler to compensate for the plant world discrepancies between the real and the virtual. Assimulate is an experiment in the effects of media stimulation.
